On December 12th, 2017 Twitter launched tweet threads, a simpler way to read and discover multiple tweets that are stitched together to share more information.

Both on Web and App version, Twitter has added a plus button in the composer, so that you can connect your thoughts and publish threaded tweets at the same time. You can add to your published thread by tapping the "Add another Tweet" button. For users viewing threads, Twitter has added a "Show this thread" label to expand the thread of tweets.
Past months,  Twitter launched 280-character tweets for all its 330 million users, up from the past limit of 140 characters. Recent data from social media analysis firm SocialFlow claims tweets with more than 140 characters are retweeted 26.52 times on average compared with 13.71 times for tweets of 140 characters and below.

In addition to 280-character limits, the new tweet threads will allow users to string more information together on Twitter than before. In the past, users may have turned to other social media platforms like Facebook to post longer information.
"A few weeks ago, we expanded our character count to make it easier for people to fit what they're thinking into a tweet," Twitter wrote in a blog post. "But we know people also may want to serialize a longer story or thought, or provide ongoing commentary on an event or topic. That's where this update to threads comes in!"
The Thread updates is going to be available for everyone on Android, iOS and Twitter.com in the coming weeks, according to Twitter in their post

Twitter increases their character limit for tweets from 140 to 280

The tweets in your timeline are about to get super-sized. Twitter said on Sep. 26, 2017 that it has started testing 280-character tweets, doubling the previous character limit, in an effort to help users be more expressive. “Our research shows us that the character limit is a major cause of frustration for people tweeting in English,” the company said in a blog post. “When people don’t have to cram their thoughts into 140 characters and actually have some to spare, we see more people Tweeting — which is awesome!”

About 9 percent of all tweets today are exactly 140 characters, Twitter says. It’s tough to do that on accident, suggesting that users frequently have to edit their initial thoughts to get them under the limit. (It’s certainly true for me.) Now Twitter hopes to ease that burden by doubling the character limit in what it calls “languages impacted by cramming,” which includes every language except for Japanese, Chinese, and Korean.
The rationale for excluding those languages is that users can fit more thoughts into fewer characters given the nature of their written language. The average length of a tweet in Japanese is 15 characters, and only 0.4 percent of tweets hit the 140-character limit, Twitter says. Still, the company said it is open to revisiting the subject of expanded tweets for Asian languages as it learns more.

The 140-character limit was originally established to reflect the length of SMS messages, which was how tweets were distributed prior to the development of mobile apps. SMS messages are limited to 160 characters; Twitter reserved the remaining 20 for the username. As often happens in creative mediums, the constraint spurred creativity, and Twitter became a fast-moving, newsyjokeyweirdo playground.

Twitter has considered expanding the tweet length for years. By the end of 2015, the company was moving closer toward introducing tweets of up to 10,000 characters, company sources told The Verge. It was being developed simultaneously with a new ranked timeline, which would depart from the purely chronological feed in favor of one that attempted to show users the best tweets first.

Wizzyblog: Download Twitter lite App on your Android phone

Twitter has finally released Twitter Lite, a lite version of the Twitter app that is targeted at places with low network and for those that don't want to consume much data or battery power when using Twitter. Before now, twitter introduced a web shortcut of Twitter lite but now, the stand-alone app is available.

Other Social media like  Facebook, LinkedIn and Messenger Lite now have lite versions of their app to make it more accessible for people with poor network connection.

The lite apps doesn't consume much of your data,
The app sizes are always less than 1mb, they has almost the same features as the regular app except for very few ones.

In terms of this Twitter lite, it has most of the features available in the regular app including push notifications but it doesn't support switching of two accounts.

Here is Twitter's statement on this app;
The test of the Twitter Lite app in the Google Play Store in the Philippines is another opportunity to increase the availability of Twitter in this market. The Philippines market has slow mobile networks and expensive data plans, while mobile devices with limited storage are still very popular there. Twitter Lite helps to overcome these barriers to usage for Twitter in the Philippines.

The Twitter representative went on to say the app was "an experiment," and the company is still evaluating on bringing it to other markets. Like many other 'Lite' apps, Twitter Lite specializes in using as little cellular data as possible, even including an extreme Data Saver mode that only loads images and videos when tapped on.

As at the time of writing this, Twitter Lite app is only available for the Philippines, so if you reside there, just download Twitter lite app from Google Playstore here. You can also download Twitter Lite app here.
